  Anthony J. Batten
Born in Oxfordshire, England, Tony has long been a Canadian citizen living for extensive periods in Quebec and Ontario. Educated at Concordia University, the Universite de Montreal, Quebec's L'Ecole des Beaux Arts, Tony has also studied with Arthur Lismer of the Group of Seven at the Museum School in Montreal. Since 1969, a professional art educator,Tony is currently the Head of Visual Arts at Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate and has been involved with overseas educational programmes including the Cambridge University Summer Programme in Visual Arts.

A regular exhibitor sincethe late 1970's , Tony is currently represented by Contemporary Fine Arts in Toronto. Solo exhibitions have included the Whitten Gallery (King City), The Arts & Letters Club (Toronto), Galerie Place Royale (Montreal) and the Del VecchioHouse (Montreal).

His work is included in the collections of such corporations as: Arthur Anderson Ltd Head Office, USA; Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Head Office, Toronto; City of Toronto Archives; Crown Life Assurance, Head Office, Calgary; Dofasco, Hamilton; McMillan and Company, New York; Nissan Canada, Head Office, Mississauga; Canadian Airlines Corporation, Calgary; St. John's College, Cambridge, UK; The Imax Corporation, Toronto; Royal Canadian Military Institute, Toronto. Works are also included in the collections of Her Majesty the Queen, the Royal Collections of Drawings and Water Colours, the Royal Library Windsor Castle, His Royal Highness, the Duke of York; Kensington Palace, London.

His many awards and commissions have recently included: the 1987 City of Toronto Royal Visit Commission; commissioned artist for the 1988 Royal Ballet of Canada Ballet Ball; City of Toronto Art PurchaseAwards (3); and most recently, the 1996 A.J. Casson Medal from the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour.
