Artists Statement:

My art is an expression of my response to the power and mystery of the natural world. I am attracted equally to the strength of shapes and to the negative spaces where shapes intersect. Whether I use an image of an actual place as my inspiration, or begin by loosely pouring paint onto a surface, the final work always has a connection to nature. My current series, “Fault Lines”, builds on my previous work, including the body of realistic watercolours completed since 2004, and the “Elements” series of pure abstract acrylic paintings completed in 2007. “Fault Lines” combines pure abstract forms with realistic imagery to document the decaying boundary between civilization and nature. The natural world is infinite, and will continue in an endless cycle of growth and change long after we are gone and our artifacts have disintegrated. If I am able to draw from the viewer a recognition of the beauty of this conflict, then my work is successful. Pat was born in Ottawa and currently lives in Cobourg, Ontario. She studied drawing and painting in Montreal at the School of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, at McGill University, and at Concordia University School of Art, as well as at Toronto’s Three Schools of Art and Toronto School of Art. She has exhibited her work in both group and solo shows, including the Art Gallery of Northumberland’s 28th, 29th, and 31st Annual Juried Exhibitions, and the Advanced Individual Studies shows at the Haliburton School of the Arts during 2008. Pat’s works are in private collections in Canada and the United States.
