Artists Statement:

Since 1978, John Chin has held more than forty solo and group shows locally and internationally resulting in private and corporate collections in countries such as Canada, the U.S. France, Holland, England, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Brunei. In 2003, OSAC (Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Council) has selected some of his works to participate in the Saskatchewan's Art on the Move Program for two years. Saskatchewan Government Insurance has also selected his work for the 2004 calendar. From 1982 to 1984, he studied at the University of Saskatchewan and completed his Bachelor of fine Arts program. Since then he has taught Art for 15 years at the Art Institute Miri, Malaysia. His students ranged from as young as 5 years old to seniors of 80. The art lessons included drawing, painting and sculpture. He has also taught some art classes through the Extension Division of the University of Sskatchewan. Last year, he successfully organized and jointly conducted a two-day special watercolour workshop in Elbow with Cecilia Jurgens of Saskatoon, and taught a class of adult artists for three months in Strongfield. John's favourite media are water-colour, acrylics and batik. Flora, still-life and landscapes have been my focus of interest. Recently, he started studying and painting the enigmatic crop-cirlces.
