Artists Statement:

Artist Statement Born in 1974 and raised in Kirkland Lake Ontario Geoffrey Lessard Moved to Toronto at the age of 20 where he has lived and worked ever since. His life has revolved around the arts, as far as he can remember, from Drama to Photography to Playwriting, but his real passion lies in drawing and painting. His formal education in Design foundation and graphic design gave him his start and he has spent the past 10 years exploring and refining his personal style through his favorite medium, painting. Geoffrey looks to the world around him for inspiration and strives to deliver his take on his experiences through his artwork. In his journey to discover his own personal style he looked to other well know artists for Guidance and inspiration. One of his Favorite Artists Salvador Dali, provoked him to explore his interest in surrealism, but his more recent work reflects his desire to push the limits of Super-realism and Colour. Geoffrey is accredited with a number of exhibitions, which include. “NYC through My Eyes”, was conceived after a trip to the vibrant city in 2000. It was first captured on film, and then transferred to canvas. He wanted to represent the essence of that marvelous city, so the viewer could feel as though they were on that busy New York Street corner with yellow cabs whizzing by, and the masses of humanity teeming all around. This well received series along with others have been expanded upon and have been shown all over Toronto. The Living Well (two Solo Shows) Zelda’s Groovy Room Gallery (Five solo shows), Wett Bar, The Pear Tree, Praxis Gallery (Group Show “Toronto Artists Inspiration"), and most recently La Perlerie (Group Show). Presently Geoffrey is building a new collection of work that tells a storey using positive an negative space which illustrates the illusion of architectural shape and form in Black and white .This collection has been developed and has been inspired by a recent trip to South America in 2007. Many new additions have also introduced splashes of vibrant colour that allow his audience to paint along with him, filling in the blanks where colour is absent. Geoffrey is constantly inspired and working on new and exciting ways to express his view of the world on canvas. He has always felt that as an artist, if he is able to provoke any emotion with his audience then he has done his job!
